Yoga and Meditation may help treat IBS and IBD

Yoga and meditation score another point in the world of science and medicine!

A new pilot study conducted by the highly regarded MGH (Massachusetts General Hospital) suggests that yoga and meditation can provide relief to those suffering from gastrointestinal disorders.

The results of MGH’s clinical study showed that the practice of yoga and meditation had a significant positive impact on the symptoms related to IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) and IBD (inflammatory bowel disease).

Meditation over Medication

This mind/body approach to treating illness has been well researched and advocated by Harvard Medical School’s Dr Herbert Benson, author of The Relaxation Response.

We are constantly bombarded with advertisements pushing pharmaceuticals on us saying “talk to your doctor” and ask if he or she can prescribe you all of these drugs. But maybe we should really be asking our doctors if we can actually do without all these high cost medications with their long lists of side effects. Doesn’t it make more sense to at least try a natural, self-healing remedy such as yoga or meditation?
