Yoga pants for men – the long and the short of it
A lot of attention has been paid to yoga garments for women, but men need clothes for yoga too. Shirts are pretty straightforward, with most guys defaulting to a t-shirt. But yoga pants for men are a little trickier. The wrong pants can really interfere with your workout. It’s critical that they don’t bind up or restrict your range of motion. Consequently there are many factors to consider when shopping for yoga pants for men.
Maybe the first thing to think about is if you prefer full length pants or shorts. Your choice might depend on the weather, and/or if there’s a place to change where you’re working out. Shorts inherently allow a greater range of motion if they don’t extend below the knee, but might not be the best choice if it’s cold out and you can’t change after class.
Finding your fit
Besides long pants versus shorts, probably the most important factor to consider is if you prefer your pants loose fitting or snug. Some prefer loose, since it gives a lot of space to move around. The downside of loose fitting pants is that there is extra material hanging down. Sometimes it can bunch up or get in your way.
The other way to go is with snug fitting yoga pants. In this case the selection of material is especially important. Pants that extend below the knee have to be flexible enough to accommodate the range of motion required by the knee, without over stretching the crotch. For this reason most snug fitting yoga pants for men aren’t just 100% cotton, but also contain a stretchable component such as spandex.
The material world
Some materials can wick moisture away from your body, which can be important if you tend to sweat. You may also want to consider how environmentally friendly the material is, and whether or not it’s organic. The origin of manufacture is important to some people, and there are many options that are made in the USA.
Other factors to consider are the existence or lack of pockets. Keep in mind that not all pockets are created equal, some will hold a lot more than others. Also some people prefer an elastic waist band, while others prefer a drawstring.

Hi Richard- Probably the closest to what you’re looking for would be YogaAddict’s below the knee shorts. They’re 85% cotton and 15% polyester. If you want them extra loose fitting, you could get them a size larger than you’re normally used to. Hope that’s helpful!
