Once in a while you come across something so different and cool that you want to tell everyone you know about it. This (or “these”, really) is one of those things.
I’ve always appreciated the quality of Vibram shoe soles. In fact, my Merrell hiking boots are made with them and the traction is phenomenal.
But I was in the market for something lighter in weight, easy-on easy-off, yet with equal traction. I looked at various shoe options with Vibram soles and found a variety of athletic footwear styles. Then I discovered the ultra lightweight Vibram Furoshiki shoe.
Their unusual style caught my eye. Taking their name from the Japanese wrapping cloth, the Furoshiki shoe’s fabric wraps around and hugs your foot. It stays in place via velcro so you can adjust the fit to your comfort.
Barefoot feel
Wearing the Vibram Furoshiki shoe almost feels like being shoe-less but with a protective, grippy sole. The fabric is so soft against your skin that it feels more like a sock. In fact I’ve fallen asleep many times with these, forgetting that I had a shoes on.
The colors and style are contemporary, so you can actually have a comfortable shoe that’s fashionable. They’re suitable for indoors or outdoors. I actually have a pair for both in and out since I prefer not to wear outdoor shoes inside my home.
Vibram Furoshiki for Yoga
I like slipping them on to do my morning stretches before I start my day. And I actually wear them for yoga as well. You just want to make sure you have them snug enough for any positions where you’re putting much of the weight on your feet, so that you don’t slip out of them.
I knew my Mom would also love the fit and feel of a Vibram Furoshiki wraparound shoe, so I got her a pair as well and she is thrilled. I also like the idea of her having a shoe with reliable traction.
At first she wanted to keep them as strictly indoor shoes but she found them to be so comfortable she ended up wearing them out and about as well.
Machine washable
They are machine washable. If you do decide to wash them, you may want to wash them contained inside of the little carrying bag they come in so that the velcro doesn’t adhere to any of your other laundry.
I’m really glad to have found the Vibram Furoshiki shoes. They’re so comfortable and lightweight, and since I tend to walk heavy on my heels, they do a great job of being shock absorbers to my feet and the rest of my body.
And if you just want something comfy while you work away at your computer, I can vouch for that function “as we speak”:)
